Students from several schools around Miami-Dade County, including kids from Hialeah Elementary School received $50.00 each from Wal-Mart and The Lions Club to purchase back to school supplies.
The Wal-Mart on northwest 57th Avenue, North of the Palmetto Expressway was filled with happy faces, early Saturday morning, August 11, 2007. A total of one hundred and fifty students previously selected to receive the $50.00 back to school shopping spree from nearby schools, were there as early as 7:30 a.m.
Each kid was accompanied by a Lions Club volunteer who led them to the school supplies
area, to choose items for the new school year. The kids were really into it. Many used calculators to stretch the money as much as possible and were careful in taking their time selecting the items to place in the shopping cart.
Many important members of our community attended the event. Including members
of the Hialeah-Miami Lakes Kiwanis Club, members of Child Hope, Inc. and the
President of Hialeahtodo.com, Felix Chinea.
We congratulate the Lions Club and Wal-Mart for putting together this beautiful event. One only needed to see the faces of the kids and parents, to realize that this would be a memorable event. A parent mentioned the $50.00 was a blessing for the needed supplies. The importance of caring for the students shown by Wal-Mart, Lions Club and the volunteers, assembled there planted a seed in the minds of the children that will bring great rewards to our community for years to come.
