July 16th at Victor Wilde Park the swearig-in ceremony to welcome twenty one new Police Officers to The Hialeah Police Departmnet took place. MayorJulio Robaina, Members of the City Council,and Chief Bolaňos along with family and friendsparticipated in the ceremony.
Among the 21 new officers, there is a former Pro Baseball player, a former Hialeah Police Cadet and the son of a retired City of Hialeah Police officer.
Jason Moore is a local boy who attended Westminster Christian High School graduating in 1997. He was named “Mr. Baseball” and was classified as a top prospect in his high school division. He attended University of Texas, and played baseball until 1999 when he was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the amateur draft. In 2002 he was traded to the Texas Rangers but was released in 2003. In 2003 he signed with the Saint Louis Cardinals where he stayed for one year. Jason played on all three teams farm teams and in 2004 returned home to South Florida. Jason considershimself a lucky person, for he has been able to accomplish 2 goals; playing baseball and now, becoming a police officer.
Rey Carvajal grew-up watching his dad going to work in a pressed blue uniformand a shiny silver badge. A retired Hialeah Police Detective Rey Carvajal takespride in pinning the same badge he wore, on his son.
A graduate of Hialeah High and a resident of Hialeah all his life, Andy Descalzo has always wanted to be a Hialeah Police Officer; no other department would do. At the age of 14 he joined the Hialeah Police Cadet program and ascended the ranks at neck brake speed. In 2004 he was named Deputy Commander of the program and lead the Cadets as Drill Master. Too young to apply for Policev Officer upon graduating high school, Andy became a 911 Operator and took that time to enroll in college and learn even more about police work and this community. Upon his 19th birthday, Andy applied to the Hialeah Police Department; 4 days after his 20th birthday Andy Descalzo accomplished his goal and graduated top of his class as a Hialeah Police Trainee from the Broward Institute of Public Safety.
Congratulations to all the new Police Officers and thank you in advance for the excellent service each one of them will providethe Citizens of Hialeah for many years to come.
