Hialeah Fire Department Welcomes 23 New Firefighters.

Hialeah, FL ---- Twenty three new firefighters have joined the Hialeah Fire Department.

The Hialeah Fire Department welcomed twenty three new firefighters on August 31st at the formal swearing-in ceremony in the Councils Chambers. Mayor Julio Robaina was joined by Councilwoman Vivian Casáls-Muñoz, Councilman Jose Caragol, Hialeah Fire Department Chief Otto Drozd, Hialeah Fire Department Deputy Chief Adel Castro, Hialeah Fire Department Training Chief Will Godfrey, Hialeah Fire Department Rescue Chief Miguel Anchia and Fire Marshall Ray Perez to welcome the new firefighters.

There were many family members and friends on hand as the recruits received their badges and certificates.

To reach this point, the firefighters had to endure the Hialeah Fire Fighters Academy which included many weeks of study covering such subjects as Hazardous Material response, emergency medical care, vehicle extrication, and State of Florida Fire Fighting Standards training. Training Chief Godfrey stated that this group was special because of the hard work and dedication demonstrated during the previous months throughout the grueling physical fitness part of the Academy.

HIALEAH ATTENDS FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES

CITY OF HIALEAH ATTENDS FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES 81st ANNUAL EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE & BUSINESS MEETING.

Educational conference designed to provide officials with strategies for enhancing local governance.

Mayor Julio Robaina of Hialeah traveled to Orlando for the annual business meeting and educational conference of the Florida League of Cities. Held August 16-18, 2007 at the Orlando World Center Marriot, this event provided a broad range of learning opportunities for elected officials combined with organizational business sessions.

The meeting offered city officials several workshops and general sessions designed to help them develop new skills, learn from other officials and glean information that can help improve city operations in their respective cities, towns and villages.

"The conference was filled with information-packed workshops, opportunities to speak to vendors who showcased cutting-edge municipal technology and time for exchange with my fellow city colleagues to discuss solving mutual problems," said Mayor Robaina.

Among the workshops presented were: 'The Future on Property Tax in Florida; Determining City Budget Policies in a Cut-Back Era; Through the Looking Glass: The Florida Legislative Process from the Perspectives of Former City Officials; Rethinking Public Leadership for Troubled Times; Running Effective Meetings, and much more!

The three-day meeting culminated with the election of League officers and board members and the adoption of a multitude of resolutions related to the member's position on key federal issues.

New Quiznos Opens in Hialeah

Hialeah, Florida - On August 17, 2007, in what will probably go down as the wildest opening in Hialeah history, Quiznos officially opened their downtown Hialeah store. On hand for the official ribbon cutting ceremony where Mayor Julio Robaina, Councilman Jose Caragol, Store Owner Alex Cambo, Manager Chris Viera, Claudia Puig of Univision, and Manny "The Sharkman" Puig. Mayor Julio Robaina presented owner Alex Cambo with a certificate of Appreciation for choosing Hialeah as the location in which to open the store. "On behalf of all of our residents and council I present you this certificate of appreciation for choosing our city. I'd also like to than Manny Puig for being here. My children are really going to appreciate hearing you were here. They are really big fans".

Best known for his work on the Discovery channel and MTV's, the Wildboyz and Jackass, Mr. Puig is a wildlife educator and entertainer. On hand to support store owner, and nephew, Alex Cambo, Mr. Puig spent several hours greeting fans and signing autographs. "It was great experience to get to speak to him one on one from fishing to alligators and how to grab them. He was very down to earth and extremely nice" where the words Eddie Miranda used to describe the experience. Also on hand to give away prizes and shirts were local radio station Amor 107.5.

The store, located within a short walk of the Raul L. Martinez Government Center, the Hialeah Courthouse, and Villa Aida Adult Community Center, will serve tasty subs like the Black Angus, Chicken Carbonara, and Turkey Ranch & Swiss. Over 100 people attended the event which lasted well over two hours.
