Hialeah Fire Department - Change Your Battery

The Hialeah Fire Department will participate in a campaign on smoke alarm maintenance as part of this year's "Change Your Clock - Change Your Battery" promotion. As the Citizens of Hialeah turn their clocks back to standard time on Sunday, November 4, 2007, The Hialeah Fire Department wishes to remind all citizens that it's time to "Change Your Clock - Change Your Battery."Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® is a national home fire safety program sponsored by Energizer® Max® brand Batteries and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, with more than 5,800 fire departments participating nationwide.
This program urges Americans to change smoke alarm batteries when changing their clocks back to standard time, which occurs this year on Sunday, November 4th.
Most home fires occur at night when people are sleeping. Rather than awakening you as many people believe, the smoke and toxic gases generated by a fire actually cause you to sleep more deeply. A working smoke detector can double a person's chances of surviving a fire by providing the extra time that is critical for safe escape.
Changing your smoke detector's batteries when turning back your clock provides an easy reminder to ensure that these life saving devices will work when needed." Help your smoke detector remain sensitive and ready to protect you by gently using a vacuum cleaner once a month to remove dust and cobwebs. If your smoke detectors have been accidentally painted or contaminated, replacement may be necessary.
For more information about fire safety, contact the Hialeah Fire Department, Fire Prevention Division, at 305-883-6900.
